I actually can’t believe that I have to write this post today. If you haven’t heard the unfortunate news, NARS, a cosmetic brand founded on cruelty free values has decided to forego ethics for profit and will start selling in mainland China which requires animal testing.
In the two days this has been announced, NARS has received a lot of obvious backlash. Time will tell if they listen to the criticism and use this as a publicity stunt much like the L’Oreal owned cosmetics brand, Urban Decay, a few years back.
Rest in peace NARS, maybe one day you’ll make it back into my personal collection, but until then, lets take a look at some fantastic cruelty free brands out there that would make great replacements in your ethical beauty collection.
If you know me personally, you would know that I love to spend me some money. I can’t help it, I work hard for my money and I like to have nice things to show for it. I will however admit that while my wardrobe is top notch and my cosmetic drawer could make even a Nordstrom employee blush, the bulk of what I own could easily be replaced with something more cost effective without sacrificing quality.
With that being said, does that stop me? Of course not! If you have been curious about that real high end stuff sold in select beauty counters, not that middle of the road *yawn* cosmetics found in line at your local Sephora, then this is the list for you.
These products are the real deal. You may need to consider getting that seasonal job at Hickory Farms to be able to afford this list, but I promise you, they are all worth it.
I’m not one of those vegans that thinks I can bully society into bending into what I think is more ethical and a better fit for my personal lifestyle.
I’m not here to demonize anybody or any certain company. Really, I would love to have all of these brands that aren’t cruelty free to be on the other side of my list in the future. I would not be mentioning these companies and brands if they did not have something to offer to the beauty table.
When that day comes (not holding my breath), I will be the first one singing their praises, front row center with bells on.
